He loves me, he loves me not? HE LOVES ME!

Yes, he did ladies.  My hubby came home yesterday with some beautiful flowers.  I stared at them all night and I am continuing to stare at them all morning.  Flowers make me so happy, especially with this ugly weather right now.  What is it about flowers that make most of us girls so happy?  For me, I believe the reason I love them so much is that they make me feel fresh, beautiful and appreciative for all the beautiful gifts are Heavenly Father has provided for us. Thank you so much hubby, you really made my week!!!

I love these pics, they make me look forward for what is to come this summer.  Plus it cracks me up that Madeline will only wear her sunglasses when we go on a walk.  Madeline and Luke have been hanging out quite a bit lately and I think that they are finally acknowledging that each other exist.  Madeline has been really into babies lately.  It cracks me up that they are so fascinated by other little people.  I wander if they think they are big and are not a baby.  Who knows, but it is precious!

By-the-way check out our pee pee poll. I did not know there were so many fellow yellow water makers. I am truly proud! Make sure you vote if you have not already. I think there are still 4 more days. Tell your friends to vote. I am seriously very curious how many of us there are out there.

Bubbles and Yellow Water!

So, I was giving Madeline a bath this morning and then all of a sudden the water started bubbling. I started cracking up. Yes, she did, she farted in her tub.  For those of you who know us pretty well I am sure you are thinking, "wow she is definitely your and Matt's daughter."

Anyways, her bubbles made me think of a poll that I thought would be funny. When Matt and I got married I found out that he pees in the shower. I thought this was absolutely disgusting. I made him stop needless to say. I swear, just a few days after, Matt got athletes foot. To this day he swears that because he stopped peeing in the shower he got athletes foot. So, the sucker that I am, I let him return to peeing in the shower. Right after I let him continue his yellow water makin his athletes foot went away. Coincidence, I don't know.

I would like all of you, and of course this is anonymous, to answer my poll. Do you pee in the shower? Even if you only sometimes pee in the shower you need to answer yes. Only if you NEVER pee in the shower can you answer no.

Not to gross all of you out, but to make you feel more comfortable, yes I am now a yellow water maker and I must admit, it is liberating!

Here are some pics of her on the Merry-go-round as well. She absolutely loved it. She even cried when we took her off. This was the first time Matt got to see her and take her on the Merry-go-round. He was in heaven! That girl is so much fun!

Temples

John 2: 13-16

13 ¶ And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of amoney sitting:
15 And when he had made a ascourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;
16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.

For those of you who do not already know this, there is a new temple that was just built by our house, the new Draper, Temple. Matt and I are very excited about this. It is right next to our house and it is so beautiful. The temple is now having its open house for the public to go and see the temple and learn more about temples in general. We had the opportunity to take some neighbors who are Catholic and wanted to learn a little more. It was a wonderful night to be able to share that with our friends and to be in the Lord's house. We also had the opportunity to volunteer to help out with the open house. I was on cloud nine that day. It has been so much fun to meet new people and to be able to share this aspect of our life with our friends.

I know I have been writing a lot of posts about the various networks who like to show their version of what sacred ceremonies take place in our temples. I say their version since they are obviously not members and therefore do not know how the ceremonies take place, so they have recreated the ceremonies as to what they think takes place.

There are many who do not necessarily understand why it bothers members of the LDS church that these networks are showing these sacred ceremonies and ordinances on tv. I have attempted to explain why I feel that it is completely inappropriate and wrong as well. However, the other day I could not stop thinking out the versus in the Bible from John chapter two, versus 13 through 16.

Temples are not something foreign or new, they have existed since the beginning of time. They are the Lord's house, where his faithful children go in order to make sacred covenants with him. Hebrews 13:8 "God is the same yesterday, today, and forever." God has never and will never change and we therefore practice the same practices that have taken place since the world began with Adam and Eve. No, or course we do not sacrifice animals. For those of you who are familiar, Christ was the ultimate sacrifice and he therefore fulfilled that commandment and it is no longer necessary to sacrifice animals as they did in Old Testament times.

Each temple is a sacred house of our Heavenly Father. It is a place where a man or woman can leave this world and enter into our Father's house, make covenants with him so that one day we may return to him, and also receive answers to those questions that we may need a little more help with. It is a place of peace and love that cannot be found in our world today.

When you read the versus above in the book of John you can read about the anger that Christ displayed when those merchants were making a mockery of his Fathers house. Do you understand how he felt and why he was so upset and angry? I certainly do. Even more now that there are television networks out there that are doing the same thing. They are making sacred practices into Hollywood shows and therefore making a mockery of the Lords house, so they can put some more money into their pocket books. I truly hope that all of you can see that there is absolutely no difference between what those merchants were doing when Christ was here on earth and what these television networks are doing in our day. I hope that helps all of you to better understand where the members of the LDS church are coming from. Thanks!

Regarding my previous post that I deleted.

The church has asked us not to contact HBO, or TV Guide regarding these shows. The church has asked us to let the Public Affairs Department handle this. Please read below:

The Publicity Dilemma

SALT LAKE CITY 9 March 2009 Like other large faith groups, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sometimes finds itself on the receiving end of attention from Hollywood or Broadway, television series or books, and the news media. Sometimes depictions of the Church and its people are quite accurate. Sometimes the images are false or play to stereotypes. Occasionally, they are in appallingly bad taste.

As Catholics, Jews and Muslims have known for centuries, such attention is inevitable once an institution or faith group reaches a size or prominence sufficient to attract notice. Yet Latter-day Saints – sometimes known as Mormons - still wonder whether and how they should respond when news or entertainment media insensitively trivialize or misrepresent sacred beliefs or practices.

Church members are about to face that question again. Before the first season of the HBO series Big Love aired more than two years ago, the show’s creators and HBO executives assured the Church that the series wouldn’t be about Mormons. However, Internet references to Big Love indicate that more and more Mormon themes are now being woven into the show and that the characters are often unsympathetic figures who come across as narrow and self-righteous. And according to TV Guide, it now seems the show’s writers are to depict what they understand to be sacred temple ceremonies.

Certainly Church members are offended when their most sacred practices are misrepresented or presented without context or understanding. Last week some Church members began e-mail chains calling for cancellations of subscriptions to AOL, which, like HBO, is owned by Time Warner. Certainly such a boycott by hundreds of thousands of computer-savvy Latter-day Saints could have an economic impact on the company. Individual Latter-day Saints have the right to take such actions if they choose.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an institution does not call for boycotts. Such a step would simply generate the kind of controversy that the media loves and in the end would increase audiences for the series. As Elder M. Russell Ballard and Elder Robert D. Hales of the Council of the Twelve Apostles have both said recently, when expressing themselves in the public arena, Latter-day Saints should conduct themselves with dignity and thoughtfulness.

Not only is this the model that Jesus Christ taught and demonstrated in his own life, but it also reflects the reality of the strength and maturity of Church members today. As someone recently said, “This isn’t 1830, and there aren’t just six of us anymore.” In other words, with a global membership of thirteen and a half million there is no need to feel defensive when the Church is moving forward so rapidly. The Church’s strength is in its faithful members in 170-plus countries, and there is no evidence that extreme misrepresentations in the media that appeal only to a narrow audience have any long-term negative effect on the Church.

Examples:

During the Mitt Romney election campaign for the presidency of the United States, commentator Lawrence O’Donnell hurled abuse at the Church in a television moment that became known among many Church members as “the O’Donnell rant.” Today, his statements are remembered only as a testament to intolerance and ignorance. They had no effect on the Church that can be measured.

When the comedy writers for South Park produced a gross portrayal of Church history, individual Church members no doubt felt uncomfortable. But once again it inflicted no perceptible or lasting damage to a church that is growing by at least a quarter of a million new members every year.
When an independent film company produced a grossly distorted version of the Mountain Meadows Massacre two years ago, the Church ignored it. Perhaps partly as a result of that refusal to engender the controversy that the producers hoped for, the movie flopped at the box office and lost millions.

In recent months, some gay activists have barraged the media with accusations about “hateful” attitudes of Latter-day Saints in supporting Proposition 8 in California, which maintained the traditional definition of marriage. They even organized a protest march around the Salt Lake Temple. Again, the Church has refused to be goaded into a Mormons versus gays battle and has simply stated its position in tones that are reasonable and respectful. Meanwhile, missionary work and Church members in California remain as robust and vibrant as ever, and support for the Church has come from many unexpected quarters — including some former critics and other churches.

Now comes another series of Big Love, and despite earlier assurances from HBO it once again blurs the distinctions between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the show’s fictional non-Mormon characters and their practices. Such things say much more about the insensitivities of writers, producers and TV executives than they say about Latter-day Saints.

If the Church allowed critics and opponents to choose the ground on which its battles are fought, it would risk being distracted from the focus and mission it has pursued successfully for nearly 180 years. Instead, the Church itself will determine its own course as it continues to preach the restored gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the world.

Madeline's b-day. So late, sorry.

Madeline's birthday was amazing and I feel bad that it has taken me this long to post some pics. My parents came out for her birthday, which really meant a lot to me and I am sure a lot to Madeline.  Madeline really does have the most amazing Grandparents.  Not that I ever questioned how much they would love her, I just get so grateful that both sets of Grandparents love her so much, spoil her so much and are so involved in her life.  We live in different states which makes it hard, but the effort that both Grandparents make, makes me feel so blessed!

So as you can see from the pics above Madeline got a little messy from her cake.  I really though Madeline would have a field day with that cake and make a mess.  However, I have raised a kind of clean baby, which I did not think was possible.  I had to shove her hands into the frosting and she actually got upset with me and wanted me to clean it off.  When she gets things on her hands she shows it to me and expects me to clean it immediately.  I really had to rub that frosting all over her.  She got into it a little more with time, as she did with the cake in her 12-month pics, but really, not what I was expecting from a child who came from me.  It was so cute though, to see that look of shock when we actually wanted her to make a mess.  What a girl!

I swear since the day Madeline turned one she has gotten even more personality and I absolutely love it.  I can't get enough of her.  She snuggles and kisses everything.  She is an absolute expert at blowing kisses.  These aren't just any kisses either.  They would knock you over if she happens to blow one your way.  That girl does everything with such passion.

She is not walking yet, however she could if she wanted to.  She climbs up on everything and walks along it.  She got an awesome walker for her birthday from our friends Brittany and Matt and she LOVES it.  It cracks me up though, she looks like a little old lady pushing her walker. She has quite the waddle needless to say.

She is talking up a storm lately as well.  She points to everything and says "dat," like "what's that."  I have a feeling she is going to talk my ears off, which I deserve from all the years of being such a big mouth myself.  Her little voice is the most precious voice that makes me melt.  Speaking of melting I had to organize her clothes that no longer fit her the other day (2 HUGE bins by the way).  I totally cried.  She is not my itty bitty baby anymore.  It goes WAY too fast, but I have to say we are enjoying every second of it with her.

I will post some more later, but I wanted to give a quick little update.  Thank you so much Mom and Dad and Mom and Dad Deter for spoiling Madeline like crazy and making her first birthday so special.  Also, thanks to all our friends who also spoiled her.  It was a wonderful day.
